The Results
The D.Z.B. re-votes for each year's Oscar nominated films for best picture. The voting process is simple. After having viewed all of the best pictures nominated from a single year, there is a voting ceremony. Each of the three D.Z.B. members is allowed 3 votes that may be split as he/she sees fit. Each member may also choose to use all three votes toward one film. Once all 9 votes are collected, each vote is drawn from a hat and tallied. For years with 10 or more films nominated for best picture (except 1937 because it predated this clause), a shortlist of 5 films is made before voting. This shortlist is created from the total scores each member rates each film on a scale from 1 to 10. The results chart below is a record of which film the D.Z.B. chose as the best oscar-nominated film of each year. It also includes the month in which each decision was made, and the 2nd and 3rd place winners. The final column shows how the tally of votes was broken down. * denotes a tie year. ** denotes a three-way tie year. &dagger denotes a year in which there was 10 or more nominated films for best picture. The year we last judged is featured in the header montage above.
